There are lots of common tasks that researcher staff encounter in their day-to-day working lives. For example, where is your web profile and how do you
update it, how do you fill in risk assessment forms, how do you register and then use i-Proc and eMarketplace etc.? To our knowledge, there is no single,
well-designed repository where all this information is stored—particularly as a lot of it is word-of-mouth knowledge. So we took the initiative and decided
to create one. This is intended to be the holy-grail of all common knowledge; a central location where you can look up the most typical problem or area
for research staff. Please note, any information we provide is not “official” university guidance and represents our own experiential gleanings. This has
taken us an enormous amount of effort and time (and it’s now clear to us why no one has done this before), particularly as we had to learn about a lot of
this stuff on our own first, but we hope at least some will find it a valuable reference at some point in the future. Again, if there’s something useful we’ve
missed, you spot an error, or you have a suggestion for improvement, just send us an email or come and speak with us.
The best way we’ve found to categorise everything is into three general areas, each given it’s own column below. These are:-
•
Research staff tasks: Typical things research staff encounter in daily working life
•
University-wide services: General core university services that are available to all employees
•
School-level services: Services in areas that typically operate at school-level
