Vicky Coker

Vicky was one of the original Ambassadors along with Christopher Emersic who initialised the Ambassador format in the school when the role was created in 2012.  Her original bio is preserved below. Dr Vicky Coker is currently a PDRA in the Geomicrobiology Group (2007-present) and has worked on a variety of different research projects.  Vicky currently holds a L'Oreal-UNESCO FWIS Fellowship to investigate the imaging of bacteria-mineral interactions in the subsurface while also working on a project on oil catalysis.  Previous projects have concentrated predominantly on the production and uses of nano materials using Fe(III)-reducing bacteria.  These include both remediation of toxic metals and technological applications of nano particles and funding has come from a variety of sources including the EU and EPSRC.  Previously Vicky completed an undergrad in Earth Sciences and a PhD in Geomicrobiology, both at the University of Manchester.
