Research Staff Association

Our Research Staff Association

The university has a recently (2011) formed Research Staff Association (RSA).  This is a voluntary group of fellow researchers who represent our voice at a university level.  They hold frequent gatherings in which there is typically a guest speaker discussing a topic of relevance to research staff, such as garden leave, matters relating to your personal development, or matters of university policy.  As your Ambassadors, we try to attend these meetings where possible and relay any useful information.  We would strongly encourage you to pop along and familiarise yourself with this association; like us, they will help you find out information or feedback important concerns you raise to appropriate bodies within the university.  Their website lists upcoming events and also contains a blog of what’s happening.  The RSA also has a Facebook page which you can join to get updates and you can also email them.

Other research staff associations

Vitae also helped form the UK Research Staff Association (UKRSA) in 2010, whose aim is to provide a national voice for research staff that informs institutions, funders, and governments about the most effective ways to support them in achieving their career aspirations.  It’s worth at least keeping an eye on this body, as they represent your interests as researchers at the highest level.  Additional reading can be found here.  You can join their mailing list to keep up to date with developments and find out about things such as the Vitae Research Staff Conference.
